Northwood Field Trip

Northwood Field Trip

On November 12th, Mrs. Bicherl's class took a community-based instructional trip to the WIVB Channel 4 studio in Buffalo. Mr. Mike Doyle, News 4 meteorologist, took the class on a tour of Buffalo, NY's oldest television broadcasting station. During the tour, Mr. Doyle not only taught our students how he uses numerous computer models to come up with his weather reports, but the class was also able to meet news anchors, see the various news departments, story editing areas, the podcast streaming studio, the production/directors' booth, and the news studio set, only to name a few. The students experienced firsthand the green-screen magic used in weather reports and watched a live noon news broadcast anchored by Jeff Preval and meteorologist Todd Santos. Fun fact to share- did you know there are no camera people in the studio? The cameras are fully automated by innovative technology. Our class was then featured on the 11 pm and 6 pm newscasts.

Many thanks to Mr. Mike Doyle, Channel 4 meteorologist, for taking us on the tour, and Mrs. Nans for arranging this fun and exciting trip! This was surely a "core memory" for all of us!
